Emergent: Bringing to light the untold stories of America.

We at AMF understand that we are indeed better together when we see the beauty of diversity in our nation and are not blind to it.

We have been publishing photojournalistic stories for almost a decade and this will be our first open call for entries from around the US. This allows for us to bring to light stories that are often overlooked and we hope to engage a new and traditionally underserved audience in the art world.

The top 20 images were published in AMF magazine 2023. The Grand prize winner received a cash award as well as a prize package from our sponsors.

This photograph was taken at the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, home of Philadelphia’s Urban cowboys. They, along with the Federation of Black Cowboys, provide a safe space for youth to learn horsemanship. The riding club teaches children to care for the horses as well as how to ride them. It not only helps form unique bonds with the animals but also fosters a strong sense of responsibility.

On August 16, 2020 a massive lightning storm created the CZU Lightning Complex Fire in Santa Cruz County. Almost 1,500 buildings were destroyed and over 86,000 acres of land had been consumed. In this photo, fellow photojournalist Shmuel Thaler rushes toward the flames to get the shot.

This unhoused mother of a 2-year old daughter had been living in various shelters. Out of fear for the safety of her child, she decided to leave in her car. In this photo she holds her daughter tight with all the love and emotion of a caring mother. Despite wanting to give her a daughter a better life, the authorities took her daughter away shortly after this photograph was taken.
